The “Let’s Learn LaTeX” workshop, organized by the Department of Computer Applications in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), was held on the 25th of October 2023, at the Computer Lab of Christ College, Vizhinjam. The workshop aimed to introduce students to LaTeX, a powerful typesetting system commonly used for academic and technical documents. Dr. Neena Raj N R, an Assistant Professor at Mar Baselios College of Engineering & Technology, served as the resource person for this event.

The workshop began promptly at 10:30 AM with a warm welcome from Mr. Joshua J, the student coordinator. He emphasized the importance of LaTeX in academic and

research documentation and thanked Dr. Neena Raj N R for her willingness to share her expertise.

Dr. Neena Raj N R, with her profound knowledge and experience, conducted an informative session on LaTeX. She covered various aspects, including:

Introduction to LaTeX: An overview of what LaTeX is and its significance in academic and technical writing.

Installation and Setup: Practical guidance on installing LaTeX on different operating systems and configuring the LaTeX editor.

Document Structure: Explanation of LaTeX document structure, including document class, packages, and basic commands.

Writing LaTeX Code: Hands-on experience in writing LaTeX code for creating documents, including formatting, mathematical equations, tables, and references.

Creating a Thesis: Dr. Neena demonstrated how LaTeX can be used to create a complete research thesis or academic paper.

Troubleshooting: Common issues and how to resolve them, ensuring that participants could work effectively with LaTeX.

The workshop encouraged active participation from the attendees. Dr. Neena Raj N R patiently answered questions and clarified doubts throughout the session. The hands-on exercises allowed participants to practice LaTeX coding, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject.

The “Let’s Learn LaTeX” workshop was a resounding success in introducing students to LaTeX and equipping them with essential skills for academic and technical documentation. It fostered a sense of enthusiasm and confidence among participants in using LaTeX for their future endeavors.
