The department of Commerce since its inception in 2014 has established as one of the reputed academic department of the college under University of Kerala. The mission of this department is to provide quality education in Commerce and equipping students with the skills necessary to face the challenges and requirements in the business world. The department offers the under graduate programmes affiliated to the University of Kerala under Career Related Choice Based Credit and Semester System (CBCSS) in two streams:
B. Com Commerce Tax Procedure & Practice is an undergraduate course covering the likes of bookkeeping, monetary arrangement and assessment, and procedure taxation. The course consists of 36 papers including language papers over a duration of 3 years. This course prepares the student for a professional qualification and provides a solid base in taxation, accounting and finance. The students are exposed to the details of direct and indirect taxes. The general business oriented papers such as Marketing, E-business, Entrepreneurship Development provide them with the theoretical knowledge of the market and its working. The problem oriented papers like financial accounting, cost accounting and statistics make them familiar with the preparation of statements and application of theories. The tax papers make them ready for dealing with the tax assessments, adjustments and tax calculations. The undergraduate course makes them qualified for accounting and finance oriented jobs in firms and organizations in India and abroad. Indian commerce graduates are the most needed employees in gulf countries in the recent past. Banks, government divisions, instructive institutions and other associations are in great need for B. Com. graduates which prove that this programme brings great opportunities for these graduates.
Bachelor of Commerce in Finance is an undergraduate course offered by the University of Kerala. The normal duration of the course is three years consisting of six semesters. The course aims at equipping the students to cope with the emerging trends and challenges in the industrial and business world. Along with Language, Foundation, Core, Complementary and Open Courses to the elective stream Finance, there are four elective options. Financial Management, Project Finance, Financial Services in India and Taxation Law and Accounts are the elective options. These papers enable the students to take financial decisions in an efficient manner and thereby exploring the finance related careers in India as well as in Foreign countries. The course provides an overview on Financial Accounting, Corporate Accounting, Cost Accounting and Management Accounting which will help students placed in jobs in the field of accounting. The course also shapes students qualified to build their career in the field of Financial Administration, Financial Planning, Auditing, Accounting, Wealth Management, Property Valuation etc. B. Com. in Finance acts as a strong base for higher level programmes such as M. Com., MBA, CA, CMA, CS, CFA etc.
The Department of Tourism offers a three-year undergraduate programme on B.Com Commerce & Tourism and Travel Management. Owing to the relevance of the Tourism industry in the world scenario, the course offers excellent career prospects. Efficient faculties in the Department prepares students to seek immense opportunities in various field related to tourism. Apart from opting this for higher studies, students can also pursue careers in the field of communication, hospitality, Tourism, Aviation and other entrepreneur jobs related to tourism. Moreover, the college has an active Placement Cell which has an excellent record to its credit. Internship/ On the Job Training Programmes are provided which caters to the demands and challenges posed by the Tourism Industry.
